2022 World Display Industry Conference opens in Chengdu

Sichuan uses the new display industry as a model to promote the transformation from Made in China to Created in China. It must have a deep understanding of the development trend of new display industry technology, learn from and draw on the best practices in the development of international industrial clusters, learn from each other's strengths, guide the effective allocation of factor resources, and promote the optimization and upgrading of the supply chain of the new display industry chain.

Sichuan Provincial Party Committee Deputy Secretary and Governor Huang Qiang said that Sichuan ranks third in the country in terms of new display panel shipments. 50% of the world's laptops and 10% of smartphones are manufactured in the Chengdu-Chongqing region. Nearly half of the world's high-end flexible screens are produced in Sichuan, which has become an important base for the global new display industry. Sichuan firmly promotes the display industry as a strategic emerging industry, increases government support, creates a first-class industrial development environment, and builds a world-class new display industry cluster. Seize opportunities for the industrialization of new generation display technology, introduce and cultivate a number of innovative enterprises and R&D teams around cutting-edge technologies such as flexibility, laser, holography, and quantum dots, and vigorously enhance R&D innovation capabilities. Efforts will be made to strengthen the shortcomings of the industrial chain, accelerate the development of the entire industrial chain covering core panel materials, components, basic equipment, terminal production and other links, and continuously enhance the independent controllability of the industrial chain.

Wang Jiangping, member of the Party Leadership Group and Vice Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, pointed out that in the digital age and information society, new displays are the main carrier of information presentation and the basic window for human-computer interaction. In recent years, with the strong support of the state and the joint efforts of the entire industry, my country's new display industry has continued to "accelerate" and reach "new levels". The industrial scale has continued to expand, with the annual production capacity of display panels reaching 200 million square meters. In 2021, the industry's revenue will exceed 580 billion yuan, which strongly supports applications in smartphones, TVs, monitors, laptops, tablets and other fields. The ubiquitous nature of displays has become increasingly prominent, continuously empowering fields such as consumer electronics, digital cultural creation, landscape tourism, digital medical care, vehicle-mounted displays, and virtual reality. The international coordination of the industrial chain has been steadily enhanced, and the allocation of all factors has been continuously optimized, indicating that the internationalization level of the industrial chain and supply chain has continued to improve, and the development prospects are extremely broad.

Wang Fengchao, Deputy Secretary of the Chengdu Municipal Party Committee and Mayor, said that in recent years, Chengdu has insisted on taking new displays as a key industrial chain and an important focus, accelerating the construction of an industrial ecosystem that integrates chain-owner enterprises, chain-affiliated enterprises, public platforms, intermediaries, industrial investment funds, and leading talents, and has become an important pole in the global new display industry sector. Chengdu's new display industry has established a complete industrial chain from polarizers, masks, industrial gases to panel manufacturing, covering flexible displays, liquid crystal displays, laser displays, micro displays and other fields. The output of high-end flexible screens accounts for nearly half of the world, and panel production capacity ranks fourth in the country. In the past five years, the average annual growth rate of the industry has exceeded 30%, the main business income has exceeded 60 billion yuan, and the overall scale has reached 15% of the country's total.

In addition, during the opening ceremony, Yan Qun, President of the International Society for Information Display (SID) China and foreign academician of the Russian Academy of Engineering, released the "Innovation Results of the 2022 World Display Industry Conference". Chen Yanshun, Chairman of BOE Technology Group Co., Ltd., released the "Chengdu Declaration" of the 2022 World Display Industry Conference. A centralized signing ceremony was held for 75 major new display industry cooperation projects, with a total investment of 155.7 billion yuan.

The conference will hold 4 summit forums, 6 theme forums and 1 overseas cloud forum on December 1, as well as activities such as product promotion, project signing, corporate roadshows, industry-finance docking, exhibition transactions, interactive experiences, and professional competitions.

At the same time, the conference held a new display innovation exhibition with a total area of ​​12,000 square meters. More than 60 leading display companies such as BOE, Visionox, and Tianma Microelectronics participated in the exhibition with cutting-edge display technologies, products and applications. The display includes a comprehensive exhibition area, a key enterprise exhibition area, a Chengdu-Chongqing twin-city economic circle exhibition area, a new product release area, and a trading activity area. The comprehensive exhibition area is divided into three parts: "Display makes life better, digital economy empowers display, and eye-catching display blooms globally." The Chengdu-Chongqing twin-city economic circle showcases the latest achievements in the new display field in the four cities of Chengdu, Chongqing, Mianyang, and Meishan.
